A practice community in Miami rooted in vipassana, Zen, depth psychology, and non-dual approaches to awakening. Not to escape life — but to meet it fully, without holding back.
"To study the self is to forget the self.
To forget the self is to be enlightened by all things."
Insight Miami is an independent contemplative community led by a trained Zen monk, seasoned vipassana practitioner, and depth psychotherapist. We are not affiliated with any institution or lineage, but we draw deeply from the well of living tradition.
Our practice is grounded in the classical vipassana tradition — the direct investigation of mind and body as taught in the Burmese lineage and brought to the West through teachers like S.N. Goenka — and extends into the non-dual directness of Zen, the wide-open awareness of contemporary non-dual teachings, and the expansive surrender teachings of Michael Singer.
We are also informed by depth psychology — the tradition that takes the inner life seriously, that does not bypass difficulty but turns toward it as teacher. There is no spiritual bypass here. We practice not to transcend our humanity but to inhabit it completely.
Emptiness, as we understand it, is not vacancy. It is the open ground from which all of life springs — the fertile darkness, the fullness beneath form. To touch it is not to disappear. It is to finally arrive.
"The natural flow of life is to grow, to expand, and to experience more."
— Michael A. SingerWe bring together four streams of wisdom that rarely speak to each other — and find that they point to the same truth.
The direct observation of experience — sensation, emotion, thought — with clear, steady, non-reactive awareness. The heart of the vipassana tradition as taught in the West.
The direct, unadorned seeing of the Zen tradition and other non-dual approaches: to meet experience fully, to use everything, to recognize that what we are looking for is already here.
No spiritual bypass. The inner life — shadow, wound, longing — is not an obstacle to practice. It is the practice. We bring psychological literacy to the cushion.
Wellness culture. Performance spirituality. A place to feel better by feeling less. We do not offer transcendence as escape.
A real practice community. Serious but not solemn. Rooted in lineage, open to anyone willing to look honestly at their own experience.
All sessions are open to the public. No experience required. No registration needed for weekly sittings.
Four freely available resources that represent the streams of practice we draw from. A good place to begin, or to go deeper.
Thousands of dharma talks from teachers across the insight meditation tradition — a broad and living archive of the practice as it has taken root in the West. Freely offered.
The clearest, most honest introduction to insight meditation in print. No mystification, no comfort. Just a direct invitation to look. Available entirely free online.
A teacher who holds the dharma and depth psychology together with rare skill. Her talks on radical acceptance, the trance of unworthiness, and compassionate awareness have helped thousands. All freely available.
A contemporary voice pointing toward the same openness the traditions have always pointed toward: stop blocking life. Let it move through you. Allow awareness itself to be your home.
Whether you are new to meditation, a seasoned practitioner, a therapist, a skeptic, or someone who simply senses that something important is being pointed to — come and sit with us.
This community exists for people who want a real practice: one that is rooted in authentic tradition, informed by psychological wisdom, and unafraid of the full complexity of being human.
